Mike San Miguel was truly one of the best people I have known. He was a great birder and friend who inspired me to be a better birder and person. I thoroughly enjoyed every field trip he lead, including ones to Owens Lake, the Los Angeles River, Piute Ponds and Point Vincente. I also enjoyed meeting up with him whenever I decided to chase a rare bird. If Mike was not the orignial finder, he tended to be one of the first ones there to appreciate and enjoy the rarities in LA county and elsewhere. I am sure that there will be many rare birds that go unnoticed now that Mike is not around to find them. He is irreplacible and I will miss him. --- Janet Scheel
