Alicia is a communications and public relations professional specializing in telling stories about science, engineering, medicine and university research. She lives in Pasadena and enjoys working as a speechwriter for the chancellor at UCLA, while dreading her long commutes to Westwood. One plus: She works across the street from an eBird hotspot.
On the side, she consults for clients who need writing, editing and strategy for websites, magazines, press releases, SEO and digital marketing. Alicia started her career as a journalist at the Los Angeles Times and Oregonian and was editor in chief for USC’s alumni magazine for nearly a decade.
An avid hiker, trail runner and native Californian, Alicia loves the outdoors, which is why she became a UC Environmental Stewards California Naturalist. She loves to deal out random facts about butterflies, buckwheat species, mariposa lilies and weird marine invertebrates. When not volunteering for PAS or shooting blurry nature photos, she leads iNaturalist bioblitzes and volunteers as a camera trapper and wildlife identifier for the Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy. Spanish was her first language.
